Casablanca

The name Casablanca is indelibly associated with the 1942 film with Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart.  In fact, the film was shot entirely in the studio... but motion pictures of that era were not so heavily reliant of special effects and on-site cinematography.  An interesting bit of trivia abut Casablanca is that producer Hal Wallis was not entirely satisfied with Dooley Wilson (Sam), and had considered casting Ella Fitzgerald as Rick's piano player.  Dooley seemed perfect for the part, but Ella would have stolen the show!

But enough of this reminiscence... these days, Casablanca is Morocco's largest city, with an ample port for cruise ships and a brand new train station.  Like Rabat, it also has an ultra-modern tram system. We have been there a few times, and have explored the port area and just an edge of the Old Medina. In that neighborhood, we discovered Casa Jose, a very contemporary Tapas Bar which serves unforgettable fish brochetas and Gambas Pil Pil (shrimps with garlic).  It is listed in Trip Advisor if you find yourself in Casablanca for lunch or dinner (make a reservation!).
