Marrakech

Marrakech is said to have been founded in 1062, but its history goes back to Neolithic times. The red sandstone which was used for building created the nickname "The Red City", although it is actually more a pale terra cotta. Awnings, trim and doors are invariably a light blue - green, which nicely compliments the traditional building color.

Not far from the train station, there is an area which is reminiscent of New York City's Greenwich Village and Soho...  It is composed of narrow tree-lined streets, art galleries, small shops and restaurants... an interesting mix of residential and commercial building.

The David Bloch Gallery exhibits contemporary Moroccan art.

This building project appears to be "on-hold", but in the meanwhile, its corrugated metal facade is an exquisite assemblage of graffiti, random colors and discarded objects.
